Our Commitment to
Intelligent Travel
Destination Himalaya is committed to ensuring travel that is both ecologically responsible and culturally sensitive. Ever respectful of nature and of the cultures and communities in which we operate, we maintain the highest standard of low-impact tourism.
For Destination Himalaya, low-impact camping is the rule not the exception and “eco-tourism” not just another buzzword. Donating a few dollars to the local wildlife fund or cultural organization and thinking that our work is done, is not our philosophy.
“Environmentally Conscious Travel”, as we believe, means being “conscious” of the entire environment around us and not just the birds and the bees. Equally important are the people, the culture, and the religion that we encounter on our travels. We would not disturb a monastery while monks are meditating or scare away a nesting bird in order to photograph it in flight. We don't leave rubbish on mountainsides at high altitudes, where even food waste doesn't degrade. For that matter, we don't leave rubbish anywhere. We don't use scarce firewood; we carry our own fuel.
Our goal is to ensure you receive a warm and heartfelt welcome from the proud people of the Himalayan countries and to help preserve the pristine beauty of nature. Our guiding principle is to show respect for the people, their religions and cultural beliefs, and for the environment in which they live.
Your Investment
We are sensitive to the fact that you are making a considerable investment in your vacation, both of your finances and of your valued time. We rarely
cancel a trip; in fact, we have the capacity of operating
most of our trips with as few as two participants. So you can make your travel plans with the assurance that you trip will indeed go forward.

Our Prices
DH has its own offices in India (Delhi) and Tibet (Lhasa) and a partnership with our outfitter in Mongolia and Sri Lanka. This allows us more direct control of our ground operations in these areas, including, but not limited to, the hiring of staff, and thus enables us to maintain a greater degree of monitoring on a local level than that of most other tour operators.
Even though some of our trips may be significantly less
expensive than other tour operators in the USA, we do not compromise
on the quality of our services. We offer the best available
services on all our tours. Our lower prices
are a direct reflection of the fact that we do not sub-contract our entire operations
in India and Tibet.

"The truth is that I only realized what a great travel agent you are when we were actually traveling in India and I saw everything that you told me that would happen unfold.”
